Most standard telehandlers fall within legal length, width, and weight limits, which means straightforward flatbed or step deck transport without oversize permits. Wide-body construction models and heavy-lift units exceeding 80,000 lbs may require oversize permits and specialized securement — we handle all of that in-house so you do not have to coordinate permits yourself.
Telehandler Brands We Transport
JLG Telehandlers
JLG is one of the most widely recognized names in the aerial work platform and telescopic handler market. Common JLG telehandler models we transport include:

JLG telehandlers typically weigh between 20,000 and 36,000 lbs in standard configuration. Most travel comfortably on a step deck trailer without requiring oversize permits, though wide outrigger-equipped models may need routing review.

Genie (a Terex brand) produces a broad lineup of telescopic handlers suited to construction and industrial applications. Models we regularly move include:

Manitou Telehandlers
Manitou produces some of the most versatile telehandlers available, including rotating models favored in European markets and increasingly popular in North American construction. Models we haul include:

Rotating Manitou telehandlers require extra attention to cab and boom securement during transport. Our drivers are experienced with these models and ensure the rotating superstructure is properly locked before loading.
Merlo Telehandlers
Merlo is an Italian manufacturer known for high-capacity and specialized rotating telehandlers. Their machines are found on farms, construction sites, and industrial facilities. We transport Merlo P-series and Roto-series telehandlers nationwide, including models such as the Merlo P40.17, P72.10, and Roto 40.30 MCSS.
Skytrak and Lull Telehandlers
Skytrak (now part of JLG/Oshkosh) and Lull are legacy brands with large installed bases in North American construction. The Skytrak 6042, 8042, and 10054 are among the most common telehandlers on job sites. Lull 644E-42 and 1044C-54 models are still in wide use. We transport all Skytrak and Lull models on flatbed and step deck trailers.

Trailer Options for Telehandler Transport
Flatbed Trailers
Standard 48' and 53' flatbed trailers work for most telehandlers under 13'6" in transport height. The machine is secured with chains and binders at designated tie-down points. Flatbed transport is the most economical option for legal-dimension telehandlers.
Step Deck Trailers
The lower deck of a step deck trailer — typically 10" to 14" lower than a standard flatbed — accommodates taller telehandlers that would otherwise exceed legal height limits on a flat deck. Step decks are ideal for rotating models and units with fixed overhead guards that raise overall height in transport position.
RGN Trailers
For the heaviest telehandlers and units with unusual dimensions, a removable gooseneck trailer provides drive-on loading and maximum load flexibility. RGN transport is typically reserved for machines over 40,000 lbs or those that cannot be safely loaded via a ramp.
Pre-Transport Preparation for Telehandlers
Proper preparation before pickup ensures a smooth, damage-free move. For most telehandler transports, operators should:
- Retract the boom fully and engage the boom transport lock
- Lower the fork carriage to its lowest position and tilt it back
- Fold or remove any attachments (fork extensions, buckets, bale spears)
- Retract or remove outrigger stabilizer arms if equipped
- Ensure all fluid caps are tight and no active leaks are present
- Remove or secure any loose components in the cab or on the frame
- Confirm the transport lock on the rotating superstructure is engaged (rotating models)

Permit Requirements for Telehandler Transport
The majority of telehandlers are under 8'6" wide and under 13'6" tall in transport configuration, which means they travel on standard flatbed or step deck trailers without oversize permits. However, several scenarios require permits:
- Overwidth loads: Models with outriggers or wide tires exceeding 8'6" require overwidth permits in most states
- Overweight loads: Heavy-lift telehandlers over 80,000 lbs combined (machine + trailer + truck) require overweight permits
- Overlength loads: Units with long boom extensions or specialized attachments may exceed 53' legal limit

Cross-country moves or oversized units will carry higher rates. Multi-unit moves — common with rental companies relocating entire fleet segments — qualify for volume pricing.
